Our Mission

Family Promise of Shawnee mobilizes faith communities to embrace homeless families with children and help equip them for self-sustaining independence. We provide homeless families with children and pregnant women the tools necessary to achieve long term self-sufficiency through a comprehensive program of temporary housing, transportation, case management and supportive services.

How it Works

Host churches provide overnight lodging, meals (dinner, breakfast, lunch) and hospitality for up to four families or 14 people for one week in a rotation schedule. Helper churches coordinate with host churches to help provide meals and hospitality. Support churches provide ongoing monetary donations to help the program. Volunteers are the heart of the Network. They provide meals, fellowship, and overnight supervision for our guests. The average congregation offers 20 to 50 volunteers. They also provide weekend tranportation for the guests as needed. Community Cooperation- local social service providers, schools and churches refer guests to the Family Promise Network Director and/or case manager. Various community professionals and social service organizations provide access to housing, employment, medical, dental and other specific needs for the FP guests. The Day Center is located in Shawnee , OK . Guests receive case management, access to showers and washer/dryer for laundry, mailing address, access to phones and workspace to seek employment. Children are transported to and from school or child care facilities. Guests are transported to and from job interviews or jobs. Mentoring programs offered.
