Family Promise of Shawnee 5K Fun Run
Family Promise of Shawnee hosted their annual Families Helping Families 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run Sunday, May 15 at Woodland Veterans Park in Shawnee. Over 100 runners/walkers participated in the event. The 5K Run was chip-timed, certified and sanctioned by USA Track & Field. The Fun Run portion of the event was designed for families. Rumble with OKC Thunder was unable to attend due to OKC Thunder game playoffs, but other entertainment was provided for the attendees, such as an inflatable, food, fun runs and bench pressing.
Ryan Aldrich of Shawnee was the 5K Run winner with a chip-time of 20:26. Eric Whitt of Seminole and Mathew Schocle of Shawnee tied for second place at 20:41. Mark Roselius of Shawnee ranked third at 21:01. Winners for Male/Female age group 1-98: Ryan Aldrich, Shawnee (Male Age Group), Cassie Wheeler, Tecumseh (Female Age Group). Family Promise of Shawnee is a faith-based program that provides shelter, food, transportation and case management to homeless families with children. According to national statistics (National Coalition for the Homeless), families are one of the fastest growing homeless populations in our country. Family Promise of Shawnee believes that every child deserves a safe place to live, to go to bed without feeling hungry, and to feel loved. Our mission is accomplished through the generous giving of volunteers, churches, individual and corporate giving.
